On Saturday night Ali and I had our first date night of the trip. Hurray! The babysitter was the real estate agent we used to find our apartment and she turned out to be great. The kids took to her well. We met up with an American couple, the husband which we had met at IKEA. Amir moved here from the San Francisco bay area with his Swiss wife about 2 years ago and they turned out to be lovely people. We headed across the river to the Triana neighborhood to see a small theater production. This was a one-woman show in which she took on the personas of several characters ranging from a pock-faced, bent-over homeless woman with personal space issues to a lesbian. All in Spanish of course. I tried very hard to follow along, and with a little help from my private translator/wife, I did pretty well. Afterwards, we had some delicious tapas on the Plaza San Francisco, then a nice stroll home to find all went well with the kids. -Dave
(I have to elaborate on the "delicious tapas". This was the best food we have had since our arrival. It was a foodie's dream... risotto with mushrooms, leeks and seared scallops, warmed goat cheese with a honey drizzle, black rice with seared squid on top, some type of gazpacho with roe and pastry puffs in it, and pork solomillo on top of foie gras mi-cuit. Dessert was a chocolate mousse with a little piece of chocolate cake and homemade coconut ice cream. Fantastico! --Ali)
Sounds DREAMY! Both a date night AND the food :) xoxo Sus
